She hoped and prayed that there wasn't an afterlife. Then she realised there was a contradiction involved here and merely hoped that there wasn't an afterlife.

kayaking rocks... · 28 July 04

I ran a class IV rapid, which I can honestly say was probably the greatest thrill I’ve had in my simple little life so far. After work last Wednesday we drove for just over an hour to Richmond, to the James river. We put in from a carpark in one of the suburbs, then headed downriver towards the skyscrapers – a stunning sight, especially as they started lighting up in the sunset. First of all we stopped at a small class II to get everyone comfortable with their roll, then it was on through the 3 class IIIs and the class IV, which is called Hollywood. Having managed to flip and scrape along the bottom for a bit all for a stupid not paying attention moment, I was pretty shook up when we got to Hollywood. We got out and had a look, which was enough to start me towards near terror – however, I was damned if I was going to back out. Running through was just awesome – and I didn’t flip. We continued on down into the sunset, then going through the last class III I did flip – with an audience of 3 experts, sigh! Still, I managed to roll and got a cheer from them which is all good. But dammit, the rivers are all going down, so not much more fun to be had this summer… of that type anyway.
