London Ever Again? · 30 September 05
As we land at the airport I begin to shrug on my old skin
Mobile swops for cell phone, routes and PINs come back to mind
I travel across town, steeped with memories of how to behave
Soon no longer memories, but habits that die hard
I walk towards a wall of people, my mind less than aware
Unfaltering, unhesitating, no wavering from my line
For I know just how to make that breach to pass through
The one that leaves the tourists both shaking and scorned
The not so friendly faces so welcome in their way
Noone catches your eye, inflicts a smile as they pass
A fleeting sharing of a moment with a stranger
So much more cherished because so much more rare
Return strikes in so many more ways than expected
More than familiar, things slot back into place
All of its own sights and sounds, smells and just feel
I ponder over how much I miss this unique world

There’s really no place like it.
