She hoped and prayed that there wasn't an afterlife. Then she realised there was a contradiction involved here and merely hoped that there wasn't an afterlife.

Spyware is evil! · 31 August 04

Well, last night turned into a bit of a crisis. I got home at 6pm and decided to quickly sort out the annoying little feature that my laptop had developed, which I had diagnosed as spyware. The spyware turned out to behave more like a virus though! It stopped me getting onto the internet through my wireless card, or running norton. I finally got onto the internet with my old LAN card, and downloaded spybot, which purged the system, but too late to save my OS! (Although I only discovered this after a lengthy hold/conversation with a nice man in india from Linksys.) So, I surfed the net for a bit, found out that office Depot were doing an XP upgrade for 100 bucks, and decided to just go and buy it then and there – we’re talking 8.30pm at this point. So I went and bought XP and installed it on my laptop – and it is working beautifully! Although this did take until 11 pm… The wireless card reinstalled no problem and the memory upgrade I bought a couple of years ago that never really kicked in is now streaming along. ‘Minor’ details are that I have to update some software, including the DVD decoder if I want to watch DVDs on my laptop – so I guess this is going to cost me in the region of 150 bucks. Still, it is running so shinily well at the moment that I can’t complain!
